What is Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine is a personalized and integrative approach to healthcare which involves understanding the prevention, management and root causes of complex chronic disease.
As a functional medicine practitioner, I will recognize the body as a whole, acknowledging that all systems of the body are interconnected. I will take a holistic approach to address the underlying imbalances or dysfunction causing disease. Treatment protocols will be unique to each individual based on specific needs. There will be an emphasis on lifestyle choices such as diet, exercise, sleep, stress management, and emotional well-being.
Frequently Asked Questions…
-What are common testing methods?
In our office your initial visit will include standard lab work (CBC, Metabolic panel, & standard thyroid panel). If there are specific concerns I will suggest we order additional tests to help us better establish a baseline for care. Additional tests will not be included in the visit fee and vary in cost. Examples of additional tests include Dutch Hormone test, Stool sample test for parasites, Urine analysis for Mold toxicity, and more in-depth blood work.
-What are common methods used to establish resolution of health and wellbeing?
We will use a detailed health history and lab work to determine the root cause of the imbalance and dysfunction. Instead of jumping to medication, we will use methods to restore function to the body in those areas that are showing signs of dysfunction. Examples: supporting the body’s natural detox pathways (liver support, lymphatic support, bowel/intestinal support), support during specific detoxes and cleanses, supplement support, homeopathic support, herbal support, diet changes, exercise plans.
-Will you be my primary care provider?
As a chiropractor I am considered a primary care provider, and you may use me as such with the understanding that I will not prescribe medication or preform a yearly physical that some insurance companies provide. Our office will also not accept insurance. You can request an itemized statement for chiropractic and functional medicine that will include billing codes. You may also use your HSA account to pay for visits both chiropractic and functional medicine.
For pediatric patients I do advise to keep your pediatrician in case circumstances arise when medical attention is advised and pharmaceuticals are needed.
